Hach have a wide variety of powdered reagents available for colorimetric assays.
Test | Hach product Cat # | Method | Range | Sample size | mg of reagents in packet | mg per 3 mL reaction volume | LED | Notes | Total iron | FerroVer 92799 | 1,10-phenanthroline. | 0 to 10 ppm | 5 mL | Avg = 119 mg [118, 127, 112 mg] | 72 mg | Blue: 470nm Optimal: 510nm | $0.18 per test | Ferrous Iron | 103769 | Hach method 8146. 1,10-phenanthroline. | 0 to 3 ppm | 25 mL | 0.100 g | 12 mg | | $0.28 per 25 mL test. | Sulfate | SulfaVer 4 2106769 | Hach Method 8051. Turbidimetric. | 2 to 70 ppm | 10 mL | 0.100 g | 30 mg | | $0.28 per 10 mL test | Nitrate | NitraVer 5 2106169 | Hach method 8039. Cadmium reduction. | 0 to 30 ppm | 10 mL | Avg = 76 mg [79, 84, 77, 68, 70, 67, 76, 77, 64, 78, 84, 86 mg]
| 22.8 mg
Use 25 mg | Custom: 430nm Optimal: 420nm | $0.38 per test. This procedure requires a 1-min vigorous shaking step to get good results. Once amber color is developed it is stable at least over-night.
*Generates hazardous waste* | Phosphate | Phosver 3 2106069 | Hach method 8048. Ascorbic acid. | 0 to 2.5 ppm | 10 mL | Avg = 311.5 351, 321, 274, 300 mg | 93 mg
Use 90 mg | Red: 632 nm Optimal: 880 nm | $0.30 per 10 mL test. Reagent does not dissolve very well. Needs alot of shaking. Stirring should help. Range should be up to 2.5 ppm. Need to try the 10 mL size. Readings are not stable as the reaction begins to precipitate. Read 2-5 mins after the mixing step. |
